Wolfe Mystery
What are some good "classic" books, series or longer books?
I generally read old mystery series (Nero Wolfe, The Saint, Sherlock Holmes, etc.). The problem is that the authors are all dead so there are no new books and I have read most of the series.
So, I need new books to read. Preferably something long or part of a series. Alternately, what are some classics that everyone should read. I have read some as they cross my path and really liked, off the top of my head The Count of Monte Cristo, Dracula, Frankenstein, Don Quixote, and 1984. I am working on The Great Gatsy now, but it is really short and I will probably finish it on the way home tonight.
Here are a few of my favorites. I am really into Ngaio Marsh right now she wrote over 30 mystery novels. Very British. I enjoy reading her style very much. Tied Up in Tinsel so far is my favorite but I have only read four of her books so I obviously have a long way to go. Another new favorite of mine is Jacqueline Winspear. She has three novels out right now they are not long but very interesting and I think she will continue with the series. Maisie Dobbs is the main character a private investigator in England after the great war. I have read the second one in her series Birds of a Feather (I skipped the first one because the wait was SO long at the library to get it). I also was just introduced to Ruth Rendell I have only read one of her books Best Man to Die and I enjoyed it. Again British mystery. Those are just a few series novels to get you started. I am a fast and furious reader so I am always on the hurt for good fiction as well. Good luck.
