Total Transformation
Has anyone used James Lehman's Total Transformation Program?
My son is becoming increasingly disrespectful, angry, and violent, and he's only nine years old. He struggles with ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorder, and oppositional and defiant disorder. I have tried everything I can think of, but I'm coming up short.
I'm considering purchasing The Total Transformation Program, but I don't know if it really works or how much it costs.
Has anyone used this system? Has it helped? And how much does it cost?
Also, he is in therapy and has been for quite some time. It has helped some, but I don't know that it's facilitating his healing.
Any advice would be welcome.
I am not familiar with that program, but my son had some of these same problems when he was younger. One thing that helped me was to focus on everything positive about your son. Catch him being good. Sometimes, the bad behavior can overshadow the good behavior, so if you tell him to sit down to eat or to go get his bookbag and he does it, reward him with praise. Sometimes, there are things we just take for granted that children should do (we expect them to sit down to eat when we ask and don't think of saying something positive), but you want to reinforce anything he does (even if it's just expected normal behavior at this point), so that he get praise and attention for the positive rather than getting the attention from the negative.
What you are describing is extremely difficult to live with--espcially if you are the mother and are more involved than the father. It can be emotionally draining. My son finally outgrew his hyperactivity and also his bad behaviors. I sometimes didn't realize how much I was focusing on correcting his bad behaviors and not focusing on his good behaviors, even if his good behaviors were just normal things we often take for granted.
Also, my nephew had some behavior problems, but we found out a lot of it was related to certain foods that caused allergies and made him feel so bad that he would fly into a rage. My sister read a lot of books about allergies and put him on a special diet that helped him a lot. I don't know if that is related to your son, but in case it might be, I thought I would mention it.
