Can art be used as a cathartic method of self healing?
Eg. Frida Kahlo, Tracey Emin, Louise Bourgeois
...to what extent can artists be said to trying to be cathartic, are they just using what they know?
Is this a real question in your mind or an opinion masked as a question? Obviously the artists you cited are acclaimed examples. Google "art therapy."
Many things including art, exercise and a puppy can be therapeutic.
