What to price items at for a garage sale?
Such as paperback books, fabric/material, cassette tapes, record albums - all items are in good shape and some brand new. I do not want to set the prices too high or too low.
In my city, for a lot of items you can price the item at about 25% of what the cost would be brand new. So, if a paperback book is currently selling for $4.99, that would be $1.25. However, my family tends to price books at $0.50 - $1.00 (depending on how good the condition is and of course, what the book is - textbooks go for more). Cassettes won't bring in much money because they're rarely used these days... $0.25-$0.50 would work for these. For bigger items (if you have them) 1/4 to 1/3 of the in-store cost should work. If stuff isn't selling after a few hours, drop the prices on them before the next crowd comes in. Good luck to you.
