Jon Kabat
question for those who meditate / mindfulness adherents?
I bought one of Jon Kabat-Zinn's books. I'm interested in everything he says, but I'm still a little unclear on how mindfulness enriches your life. Can anyone here enlighten me? I often come across the example of, "When I'm washing the dishes now I'm just washing the dishes and not doing anything else." Does this really make life richer or deeper?

I am still learning to and perhaps it will be hard for me to explain it to you so that you can understand because i'm not sure how much you've read or investigated this so if i use terminology you're not familiar with i'm sorry feel free to message me!
I'm actually going to paste this from what my teacher said because i just can't say it any better but i may elaborate:
Roughly speaking, “mindfulness” refers to the practice of keeping the mind alert to phenomena, both internal and external as they are affecting the body and mind. It concerns seeing yourself and the universe as it really is.
Right mindfulness requires clear perception and it penetrates impressions, both correct and incorrect. Right mindfulness enables us to be aware of the process of how our own minds work in such a way that with practice, we can actively observe and control the way our thoughts go. Buddha accounted for this as the four foundations of mindfulness:
1. The contemplation of the body
2. The contemplation of feeling (repulsive, attractive, or neutral)
3. The contemplation of the state of mind
4. The contemplation of the phenomena.

Therefore in order to understand we live in the present moment - this may sound ridiculous because here we are living in the present moment but what i mean by this is not thinking about the past or the future just concentrating on right here and being aware. It's okay to think, don't stop thinking (well you can't really. if ideas arise let them but don't hold on to them just let them pass by. The idea is a journey to becoming awake which is the ultimate goal in the end. I can reccomend a few other books if you would like just message me sorry to ramble!.
