George Macdonald
Has anyone read The Shepherd's Castle, by George MacDonald?
Though I have a copy of the book, I haven't read it yet. I did read The Baronet's Song, which is about Donal's (the main character in The Shepherd's Castle) best friend, Sir Gibbie, and really enjoyed it.
I can't tell you how good this particular book happens to be, but I know I've enjoyed quite a few of George MacDonald's books. He leaves you in no doubt of his beliefs, and he tells a very interesting story in the process. One thing I know about The Shepherd's Castle is that there are some Gothic elements in it.
I first got interested in George MacDonald when I found out that his writings profoundly influenced C.S. Lewis and also J.R.R. Tolkien. He wrote some really good fantasy stories, too.
