Why did John not testify that Jesus is God?

34 And I saw, and I gave testimony, that this is the Son of God.
Because he didn't believe Jesus to be God. Jesus is solely spoken of as the Son of God. Jesus says he is not God, he says "no one can get to the Father except through me." If Jesus is the Father (God) how is possible to have to go through the same person to get to the same person if they are 2 people? God wouldnt create something we can't understand. The Bible says "God is not a God of confusion."
Galations 3:20- "Now there is no mediator where only one person is concerned, but God is only one."
The idea of Jesus being the same person, but in different form, as God comes from the Trinity. However:
The Catholic New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) here reads: "Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one, the only Yahweh."* In the grammar of that verse, the word "one" has no plural modifiers to suggest that it means anything but one individual.
Nor is the word Trinity found in the Bible. The New Encyclopædia Britannica observes: "Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament."
