Who do you like best and why? Aurelia, Julia, Julilla, Martha the Prophetess or Marcia or any other female...?
In the historical novel, "First Man in Rome" by Colleen McCullough? I am fascinated by these characters. Thank you.
I like Aurelia best because she is level-headed, very beautiful, and very determined to succeed in her life. Her managing the insula is one of the best descriptions in the book. Her sterling character shows very distinctly, and she could really handle her man, and a Caesar at that. Now, for the most fascinating and hated (while you did not ask but I would like to say my piece anyway!), I would choose Julilla who is so strong-willed and a master manipulator that she could even cow her father Julius Caesar and that strong bull of a man Lucius Cornelius Sulla. Her suicide is actually a surprise, but well, fiction is fiction. And historically too, Julilla does not exist, but now in literature she exists and very disturbingly so.
