Biblia Santa
What translation is the Santa Biblia?
KJV, NIV...etc...?
Is it a straight translation, or are there some alterations?
It's the Bible in Spanish
La Santa Biblia has never been translated from the English, except maybe the JWs New World Translation. They used the original texts in Hebrew and Greek, just as the English translators do. There are different versions, but not as many as in English.
I think the main Catholic Bible is called Sanchez Colunga but I'm not sure about the Sanchez part. Those are the names of the translators.
The main Protestant Bible was translated by Casidoro de Reina and Cipriano de Valera and the most popular version in Spain is the Reina Valera 1960, though the latest revision was in 1995.
There is also the poorly-named "Biblia de las Americas" which is not as you might think anything to do with a cult...just a Latin-American-vocabulary version.
Dios Habla Hoy is the Spanish version of the Good News paraphrase.
There is a Spanish NIV but it hasn't been much accepted in Spain, for some reason.
The oldest Spanish translation of the Bible was known as the Biblia del Oso because of the bear under a tree on the cover. It was produced in the 16th century. Alfonso X the Wise produced the Biblia Poliglota Complutense in the 14th century, which was an interlinear translation, but of course in those days it was not widely distributed.
