Who is the author who wrote a series of fictional books about Jane Austen?
I was at Goodwill a while back and I found a book that was apart of a fictional series about Jane Austen.This particular book was about Jane being a spy,it was either the 3rd or 4th book(I can't remember exactly).I think the author was a male.On the cover there was a picture of Jane holding an umbrella and about to step into a carriage.If you could tell me the name of the author or the title of the series I would be very grateful.Thanks!:)
As Molly T mentioned, there is a series by Stephanie Barron (which is a pseudonym for Francine Matthews). The series is The Jane Austen mystery series and they are the only books I've read so far with Jane Austen as the character in the novel.
The books are:

4-Jane and the Genius of the Place
5-Jane and the Stillroom Maid
6-Jane and the Prisoner of Wool House

8-Jane and His Lordship's Legacy
9-Jane and the Barque of Frailty
and coming out this year 10-Jane and the Madness of Lord Byron
These are not only excellent, they read as though penned by Jane Austen, herself. There is mystery and intrigue and, yes, some spy thriller in the mix. It is written as though Jane Austen is writing her adventures in her own journal. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who loves Jane Austen, her world and her novels.
You are right about one of the books having a painting supposedly of Jane Austen holding a parasol or umbrella, though she's walking and not about to step into a carriage.
